Harsh Light
We all know that in landscape photography the quality of light is of utmost importance and not to be confused with the quantity of light. As an amateur photographer I am limited to the time I can spend on my hobby and I have to take any chance for a photography session meaning that more often that not it will be in the middle of the day or when my time allows and not in the optimal conditions.
This can be very frustrating as a good location can look very ordinary in harsh midday light. Of course there you can use ND filters, CPL filters or use the image in black and white but most of the time it is a compromise. If you get to a location especially when travelling you just have to make use of it. That is what I call a decent travel snap compared to a shot taken when the light is at it’s best.
You can of course use something like Lightroom to enhance the flatness of a harsh light image. Check out these examples.
